Sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy tailored to active bodies. The name puts people off — you do not need to be an athlete. Anyone with an active lifestyle, or anyone carrying muscular tension from a desk and a commute, gets the same benefit.
Your therapist works with a mix of deep tissue work, stretching and joint mobilisation, targeting the specific areas causing you trouble rather than doing the same routine on everybody.
Where your body needs it, myofascial cupping and IASTM blading get added into the session at no extra charge — they're tools in the same toolbox, not upsells.
What's sore, what you train, what you've got coming up — a race in three days changes the whole approach.
Deep tissue techniques on the areas that need it, with stretching and joint mobilisation worked in.
We check in throughout. Deep should feel productive, not something you have to brace against — say the word and we adjust.
Cupping or blading get used within the session where the tissue calls for it.
Stretches, hydration advice and a sense of when to come back.
Loosens tight muscle and frees up joint mobility so you move more easily.
Targets the specific areas of tension driving soreness and speeds up recovery after training or injury.
Regular sessions improve circulation and cut muscle fatigue, so you train more consistently.
Finds the imbalances and tight spots early, before they turn into a strain.
Promotes tissue healing and reduces scar tissue build-up after injury.

It should feel like productive pressure, not pain you have to brace against. Deep tissue work on a stubborn knot can be intense for a few seconds, but your therapist checks in throughout and adjusts. Tell them the moment the pressure tips over — nothing is gained by gritting your teeth.
Thirty minutes suits one problem area, like a neck and shoulders or one calf. Sixty minutes is the standard full-body or two-region session and is what most people book. Ninety minutes is for full-body work with real time spent on the problem areas.
No. Roughly half the people on our tables are desk workers, parents and weekend hikers. Sports massage simply describes the technique — deep, targeted and functional — not the client.
No. If your therapist thinks myofascial cupping or IASTM blading will help, it gets used within your massage at no extra cost.
Book a deep session at least three to five days out so any post-massage soreness has cleared. In the 48 hours before a race, keep it to a lighter flush rather than deep work.
Gentle suction lifts and decompresses tight tissue, drawing fresh blood to the area to release tension and speed up recovery.
